PTO is excited for the new school year and seeing all the amazing things our kids will accomplish. Knox Gifted Academy is truly unique and the learning opportunities afforded our students are second to none.
In addition to acting as a liaison between teachers and parents, one of the PTO’s main roles is fundraising. This year we have decided to try something different. In past years we have had many “thons”. We have outsourced said “thons” and had to share the profit. We have brought the “thons” inhouse and discovered there is a reason these outsourcing companies exist! We have heard from many parents that they would rather write a check than participate in any more “thons”. This year you will get your chance! But we’re still calling it a “thon”. Old habits are hard to break.
This year PTO is raising money for more Computers on Wheels (C.O.W.s), a large shade structure for the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade playground, and funding the PTO budget. KGA is committed to providing top notch technology for our students. This requires continued investment in new computers. A full set of Computers on Wheels (C.O.W.s) is approximately $13,000. PTO is looking to provide at least 3 full C.O.W.s for the school, if not more. The shade structure is needed for our older students to be kept cool in the blazing Arizona heat. The structure will cost $34,000. The remainder of the fundraising dollars will go to fund the PTO Budget. The PTO budget goes towards catering meals and snacks for our teachers at the beginning of the year and at conference time. It funds our Family Breakfast, the Boo Hoo Breakfast, Teacher Appreciation Week, Round Table meetings, student achievement celebrations, and much more. We have set our total fundraising goal at an ambitious $100,000 to cover all the costs outlined above – and we think we can hit our goal!
We want this to be as simple as possible. There are no pledge forms or tickets. Simply write a check and send it in to school or send a PayPal to email@example.com. In the memo line of the check or the notes section of PayPal indicate your student(s) name and homeroom(s). There will be a prize for the grade that raises the most money as well as lunch with the teacher for the top 3 fundraisers in each grade. The goal is for this to be the only fundraiser this year. This one time check-a-thon will replace all the fundraisers for the entire school year.
Check out this video our students and staff made to further explain our fundraising goals!
The best news? If we hit our goal of $100,000 there will be no more fundraisers this year. If not, we will see you at the Apex Fun Run-a-thon in April!
